The family business of Michael Denney & Sons was established in 1901 by William Rowell trading as W. A. Rowell & Co. Following his retirement the business was taken over by his son George who traded as G. W. A. Rowell & Co. In those days most undertakers were also builders, as were the Rowell family up until the early 1970’s when the building company was wound down and the family concentrated more on the funeral side of the business. When George Rowell retired in the mid 1970’s the business was taken on by Michael Denney, George’s nephew who had worked in the family business since finishing his National Service in the early 1950’s. In late 2000 Michael’s son John Denney and his partner Denise took over the business. John had taken an active part in the funeral profession from the age of 14 and worked part time until 1983 when he became fully involved in the business and has taken the company forward with the introduction of newer vehicles and the opening of the new office and chapel of rest in Lakenheath in 2003.

Why Plan Now

Pre-planning will bring you peace of mind in knowing that the arrangements you particularly want will be conducted in a caring and dignified manner. Bereaved relatives can have a great deal of grief, pain and anger to deal with and adding the arrangements of a funeral to this may lead to mistakes and unnecessary costs being incurred. Planning and paying for your funeral in advance removes this burden from your family. Making sure that all the decisions have been taken in a calm situation means that your family can be left to deal with their own grief and spend time together remembering you and all the good times you shared.
